Bettie was born in Mason City, Iowa, to John and Emma Faktor.
Bettie graduated from high school in Mason City, Iowa. She married Harold W. Smith Aug. 9, 1944, in Leavenworth, Kan. They moved to Greeley in 1953, where Harold started a chiropractic practice.
Bettie was best known as a professional mother and a sweet friend to many. She was a social butterfly who enjoyed many activities like golf, bowling and playing cards. She moved to Plano, Texas, in January 2009, where she lived with her son Kurt.
Bettie is a former member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and the Greeley Country Club.
She is survived by her three sons,
Dr. Craig (Debbie) Smith and Dr. Scott Smith of Greeley, Kurt (Deb) Smith of Plano, Texas; and a daughter, Cyd Smith
of Greeley. She is also survived by her
sister, Flo Butler of Bellvue, Neb.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harold W. Smith; her parents; a twin sister, Bonnie Haga; a brother, Gilbert Faktor; and a granddaughter, Tara Smith.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 13, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Greeley.
